Stork Island in Hai Duong Province
In early winter, tourists arrive at Stork Island in the North of Hai Duong will be surprised by the view of thousands of storks and herons scattering on trees or lands which look like the white flowers of trees there.
Chi Lang Island, sometimes, is very poetic by the swings of natural storks.
Stork Island is considered one of the most attractive eco-tourism areas in the North, located in the middle of An Duong Lake in Chi Lang commune, Thanh Mien district. Since early 15th century, a part of dyke of Red River was collapsed due to flood. Gradually, this area became the shelter of storks and herons from nationwide, so the Stork Island was founded. At present, the island is the home to around 15,000 storks from seven species and 5,000 herons of three species on the island. Every year, thousands of storks and herons fly to the island in September when the north-east wind blows, and stay here until April next year. Visiting Stork Island, tourists will be fascinated about the amazing scene which thousands of storks and herons flock into and out the lake in the early morning or evening.

These are plans to make Stork Island part of an eco-trail from Hanoi, though Hien Street to Stork Island, Con Son Kiep Bac attraction, Hai Phong and then back to Hanoi. in 1996, the Vietnam office of the UN Development Programme proposed turning Dao Co into an environmental education centre for 2 years. This project would include planting bamboos and introducing teaching programmer to raise people’s awareness of environmental protection.

Since opening to visitors, there have been some projects and plans to develop this island to become more and more attractive destination in the North of Vietnam.
